Undergraduate Project: Design and Analysis of Rocker – Bogie Mechanism Robot Frame

ABOUT:

The ability to overcome rough terrain in locomotion of robots is one of the main drawbacks of most of the mobile robots. With the advent of robotics, complex tasks have been made easy. The well known rocker-bogie mechanism, which is used in the Mars rover Sojourner overcomes this. The rocker-bogie system is a suspension system created by scientists of NASA's jet propulsion laboratory. It was created because of it's increased stability compared to any other mobile robots.This rocker-bogie mechanism which is a suspension system has greater stability than other types of robots. In this project we have designed a rocker-bogie suspension robot frame.

The Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, SOLIDWORKS (version: 24, 2016) was used to design the frame. The simulation software, Ansys (version: 2019 R2) was used to perform the structural analysis and modal analysis. The robot frame was suitable to be able to climb any stairs with a slope of 45 degrees.

Technical Seminar: Cyber Physical Systems (CPS)

ABOUT:

With the development of technology, there has been an advent in the growth of robotics and other computational & software components. CPS is the integration of such physical components with computational & software elements. It is an interdisciplinary science belonging to computer science & engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. The application of CPS can be found in diverse areas such as manufacturing industries, automotive, aerospace, health care, entertainment and consumer appliances. Some examples of CPS are home automation, smart grid, self – driving cars (autonomous cars), automatic pilot system and industrial control systems. The CPS systems have a network of sensors and softwares which are used to interact with physical devices or human beings. CPS also contributes to the industry 4.0 as it aims for partial or complete automation. Hence finding it’s applications in most of the applications as mentioned above.
